1. A physical note adds more joy
One of the biggest reasons for sending handwritten notes is probably the fact that a heartfelt card or letter adds so much more joy to the person receiving it. When someone receives a physical letter or card, there’s an immediate sense of happiness. Happiness that someone was thinking about you. And happiness that they took the time to physically send something to you.
That joy gets compounded when the message received is heartfelt and loving.
2. People like receiving mail (that’s not a bill!)
I don’t know about you, but there are very few people I’ve spoken to who don’t like receiving mail (that’s not a bill). We get bills in the mail all the time. And that can make post feel like a burden.
But when you spot a letter or card in your mail that’s obviously not a bill, there’s an immediate sense of surprise, curiosity and excitement. It’s feels a bit like Christmas or having a birthday.
A letter is so special nowadays that your recipient may keep your letter for a long time as it means so much to them!

Writing handwritten notes helps to slow you down. Now if this doesn’t sound like a benefit, let me explain. Taking time to slow down is actually a positive thing. In our fast-paced, constantly grinding, digital world, we’re seeing more and more people suffer from the effects of burnout.
It’s one of the reasons why ‘mindfulness’ has become so popular. People realise that mindful activities like colouring, or writing handwritten notes, can help us to slow down. And this is particularly crucial in today’s world where the need to slow down has never been more important.
So add some more mindfulness to your life by writing a heartfelt note to someone!

Sending a note, letter or card to someone helps to increase your gratitude. The act of writing a note or letter engages your mind in reflection and positive thinking. When you sit down to think of something positive to say to someone, you increase your gratitude for that person and for your own life.

This follows on the from the point above. When your gratitude for another person increases, you’ll find that your feelings of appreciation, love and care for that person increase as well.

Another great reason to send handwritten notes is that it increases your joy. When you send a handwritten note, you can feel a sense of accomplishment, a sense of doing something good in the world, or of being caring towards others.
